India: Industrial production rebounds in November

Industrial production increased 1.8% in November compared to the same month a year earlier, contrasting the 4.0% decrease in October.

Output in the mining and manufacturing sectors both jumped in November compared to the same month a year earlier, contributing to the month’s improved reading. However, output in the electricity sector dropped. By use, industrial production in November was spurred by a surge in intermediate goods production; however, capital goods production slumped.

Annual average growth in industrial production accelerated to 1.1% in November from 0.9% in October.

FocusEconomics panelists expect industrial production to increase 2.1% in FY 2019, which is down 1.7 percentage points from last month’s projection. For FY 2020, the panel expect industrial output to expand 3.6%.
