Hong Kong: Inflation inches up in May

Consumer prices rose a seasonally-adjusted 0.20% from the previous month in May, accelerating slightly from April's 0.10% rise. Looking at the details of the release, prices for food and beverages increased at a faster pace, while price for fresh produce fell at a less pronounced pace in May.

Inflation came in at 0.9% in May, which was up from April’s 0.8% increase. Meanwhile, average consumer prices were down 0.7% year-on-year in May, contrasting April’s flat reading.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists forecast inflation to average -% in 2021, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s projection, and 1.9% in 2022.
