Guatemala Inflation July 2020

Guatemala: Inflation hits highest level since December 2019

August 10, 2020

Consumer prices rose 0.42% in July over the last month, slowing down from June's 1.41% increase. The print came on the back of falling prices for education; communication; housing; and recreation. This offset a notable increase in transport prices.

Inflation came in at 2.9% in July, above June’s 2.4%. July's figure represented the highest inflation rate since December 2019. Meanwhile, the trend pointed down mildly, with annual average inflation coming in at 2.3% in July (June: 2.4%).

FocusEconomics panelists see inflation ending 2020 at 2.5%, which is up 0.1 percentage points from the previous month’s forecast. For 2021, our panelists expect inflation to end the year at 3.5%.
