Greece: Unemployment rate falls in May

The number of unemployed fell by 15,277 in May, according to the Hellenic Statistical Authority (EL.STAT.). May’s fall marked a larger drop over April’s 12,845 decrease.

The unemployment rate decreased in May, falling from April’s 25.6% to 25.0%. The reading was below that of the same month last year (May 2014: 27.0%) and marked the lowest rate since June 2012. Despite the improvements registered over the past year, Greece’s unemployment rate is still well above the Eurozone average.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect unemployment to average 25.3% in 2015. For 2016, the panel expects the unemployment rate to average 23.5%.
