France: Industrial production rebounds in May

July 10, 2015

In May, industrial production grew 0.4% over the previous month, rebounding from the 0.8% contraction tallied in April. The result marked a three-month high and was in line with market expectations. The increase reflected expansions in both manufacturing and construction sectors.

In annual terms, industrial output grew 2.8% in May, which was significantly above the mild 0.2% increase recorded in April and marked the highest increase since August 2011.

As a consequence, the annual average variation in industrial production increased from minus 0.4% in April to plus 0.1% in May, thus hitting an over-three-year high.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect industrial production to expand 0.7% in 2015, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2016, participants expect industrial output to accelerate to a 1.8% expansion.
