Ecuador: Inflation falls to eight-month low in January

February 6, 2015

In January, consumer prices rose 0.59% over the previous month, which followed the 0.11% increase tallied in December. January’s result marked the highest reading in four months. The increase in consumer prices mainly resulted from higher prices for transportation as well as for food and non-alcoholic beverages.

Annual headline inflation fell from 3.7% in December to 3.5% in January, which marked the lowest result in eight months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists foresee inflation at 3.2% at the end of 2015, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s estimate. In 2016, FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants expect inflation to increase to 3.7%.
