Brazil: Economic activity drops in September

In September, economic activity decreased 0.1% from the previous month in seasonally-adjusted terms, according to the Central Bank’s monthly indicator for economic activity (IBC-Br, Indice de Atividade Economica do Banco Central). The result contrasted August’s 0.5% increase and marked the first contraction in four months.

On an annual basis, economic activity grew 1.4% in September unchanged from August’s reading. Annual average growth in economic activity, however, fell sharply to 0.7% from August’s 2.3%
