Colombia: Industrial sector stays subdued in September

November 14, 2019

Industrial production grew 0.3% on an annual basis in September, edging up from August’s meager 0.1% expansion according to the Statistical Institute (DANE). A breakdown by industrial activity revealed that upbeat production in manufacturing of bodyworks for motor vehicles and trailers, and manufacturing of other transport equipment drove the slight improvement in September.

Annual average growth in industrial production fell to 2.2% in September, from 2.6% in August.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report expect industrial production to expand 2.9% in 2020, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2021, the panel expects industrial production to grow 3.3%.
