Chile Business Confidence April 2022

Chile: Business confidence broadly unchanged in April

May 2, 2022

Business confidence was stable at 47.5 in April. Consequently, the index remained below the 50-point threshold, signaling sustained pessimism among businesses, with factors such as high inflation, an uncertain external backdrop and concerns over the constitutional process likely weighing down the reading.

April's figure was driven by a deterioration in sentiment in the industrial sector. In addition, sentiment in the retail sector soured. In contrast, sentiment in the mining sector improved significantly.

Panelists surveyed for this month’s LatinFocus report project fixed investment to increase 1.1% in 2022, which is down 0.2 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2023, they project it to grow 0.3%.
