Bulgaria: Inflation returns in March

April 14, 2021

Consumer prices rose 0.06% over the previous month in March, which was below the 0.61% rise recorded in February and marked the lowest reading since September last year. The moderation was largely due to falling prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, price pressures for housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels also moderated compared to the previous month.

Inflation came in at 0.6% in March, swinging from February’s 0.1% year-on-year drop in prices. Annual average inflation fell to 0.8% in March (February: 1.0%). Lastly, harmonized inflation rose to 0.8% from February’s 0.2%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project inflation to average 1.8% in 2021, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2022, panelists project inflation to average 2.2%.
