Belgium: Growth slips to near two-year low in Q2

Belgium’s economy grew 0.2% quarter-on-quarter and in seasonally-adjusted terms in the second quarter (Q1: +0.3% quarter-on-quarter s.a.), according to a first estimate released by the National Bank of Belgium (NBB) on 30 July. The second-quarter reading was the weakest since Q3 2017. On an annual basis, growth consequently inched down to 1.2% from 1.3% in the first quarter.

A comprehensive release for national accounts will be released on 30 August.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect the economy to grow at 1.2% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast, and at 1.2% again in 2020.
