Belarus: Industrial production stays muted in March

April 18, 2019

Industrial production grew 0.9% year-on-year in the January-March period, matching January-February’s result. In turn, annual average growth in industrial output dropped to an almost two-year-low of 3.6%, from 4.1% the previous month.

The weak industrial-sector turnout reflected a fall in utilities supply and a deceleration in mining and quarrying. On a brighter note, manufacturing activity gained steam in March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project that industrial production will expand 3.9% this year, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2020, panelists expect industrial production to rise 3.6%.
