Belarus: Industrial production plummets in January

February 23, 2016

In January, industrial output dropped 6.8% over the same month last year, according to the National Statistical Committee (BELSTAT). The figure was a more-pronounced decline than December’s 1.1% drop. The result came on the back of contractions in mining and quarrying, manufacturing as well as in water supply, waste management and remediation activities.

The trend pointed downward in January as average annual variation in industrial production fell from minus 6.6% to minus 6.7%.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast participants see industrial production contracting 0.3% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s Consensus. For 2017, panelists see industrial output growing 1.7%.
