Austria Consumer Confidence July 2019

Austria: Consumer sentiment remains in negative territory in July

August 9, 2019

Sentiment among Austrian consumers was unchanged at minus 4 in July, marking the joint-lowest reading since March 2017. July’s reading came despite consumers growing less upbeat about their financial situation, the general economic situation, the labor market, and their willingness to save. Weak sentiment is likely being driven by the uncertain domestic political panorama, weaker Euro area growth and global trade tensions.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 1.7% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2020, panelists see private consumption rising 1.5%.
