Austria: Consumer sentiment improves somewhat in August

Sentiment among Austrian consumers became less pessimistic in August, coming in at minus 2 from July’s minus 4. July’s reading had marking the joint-lowest reading since March 2017.

August’s result partly reflected more optimistic assessments of consumer’s current and future financial situations. In addition, consumers became less pessimistic regarding the general economic situation.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 1.8% in 2019, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2020, panelists see private consumption rising 1.5%.
