Austria Consumer Confidence October 2016

Austria: Consumer confidence picks up in October

October 31, 2016

The consumer confidence index produced by Fessel-GfK improved in October. The indicator inched up from September’s minus 11 to minus 9 in October, lifting it closer to the 0-point threshold that indicates that pessimists outnumber optimists. The index has been below zero since 2011.

October’s result mainly reflected households’ slightly improved expectations about labor market developments over the next 12 months.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect private consumption to expand 1.3% in 2016, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2017, panelists see private consumption rising 1.1%, which is down 0.1 percentage points from last month’s forecast.
