Inflation came in at 6.4% in January, down from December’s 6.5%. January’s reading marked the weakest rate since October 2021, but was above market expectations of 6.2%. Inflation should continue to decline going forward on further interest rate hikes, a tough base effect and the gradual easing of external price pressures, but will be above the Fed’s 2.0% target this year.
