Exchange Rate in Uganda
Uganda - Exchange RateThe recovery gained further traction in Q2, with economic activity expanding at multi-year high rates in April–June. Although the readings were flattered by a low base effect, they were markedly higher than those of Q2 2019, signaling an improvement in underlying dynamics. That said, the private sector PMI averaged lower overall in the quarter compared to Q1. Turning to Q3, July’s PMI dropped to a 15-month low due to lockdown measures implemented in June amid a surge in new Covid-19 cases—marking the second month of deteriorating business conditions. More positively, a fall in daily infection rates allowed authorities to lift the nationwide lockdown and ease other measures on 30 July, boding well for activity in the remainder of Q3. Moreover, following a halt due to a lack of supply, the vaccine rollout resumed in early August amid the arrival of around 585,000 doses from China and Norway.
