Inflation in North Macedonia

North Macedonia - Inflation

The economy likely lost traction in the second quarter. The industrial sector remained on a weaker footing due to a decline in manufacturing output throughout Q2 compared to the same period last year. Moreover, retail sales growth was more subdued than in Q1, pointing to softer private consumption growth. On a brighter note, tourism fared well in Q2, with tourist arrivals rising sharply year-on-year in June and more than offsetting May’s decline, while merchandise exports rose robustly in the same period. Turning to Q3, the industrial sector was revived in July with production recovering on a surge in energy supply. In other news, Serbia and North Macedonia opened an integrated border crossing on 27 August, which should expedite the passage of people and goods between the two countries, boding well for trade ahead.
