Exchange Rate in Nicaragua
Nicaragua - Exchange RateThe economy likely remained mired in a deep slump in the first half of 2019. Ongoing capital flight, with bank deposits shrinking sharply throughout H1, reflects heightened concerns among consumers over the state of the economy and the long-standing political crisis. Meanwhile, a prolonged drought in the agricultural Dry Corridor likely hindered harvests of crops such as maize and beans. Investment appears to have remained depressed as business confidence—particularly in the construction, tourism and retail sectors—continues to wane amid the prolonged political crisis. More promisingly, sustained remittance inflows during the period should help to partially limit the decline in household spending.
