Population in Mozambique
Mozambique - PopulationThe economy lost further momentum in the second quarter, with growth easing to a near two-year low of 2.3% year-on-year as the impact of cyclones Idai and Kenneth began to take their toll (Q1: +2.5% yoy). Notably, agricultural output—which accounts for over a quarter of GDP—flatlined as the cyclones destroyed thousands of hectares of crops, largely driving the overall slowdown. In addition, a marked contraction in the all-important mining industry and a moderation of activity in the commerce sector further weighed on the headline figure. In other news, on 9 September, nearly all investors of the country’s USD 727 million Eurobonds agreed to the restructuring proposal laid out by authorities, a move that should provide the government with significant cash flow relief. The settlement of the bond restructuring is expected for later this month.
