Money in Haiti
Haiti - MoneyThe economic meltdown has intensified recently amid continuing social unrest. Protests calling for the resignation of President Moïse have rumbled on for several weeks, resulting in the widespread disruption of economic activity. Moreover, hefty layoffs and food and fuel shortages are having a further detrimental effect on the economy. In particular, the shortages are fanning price pressures: Inflation was roughly 20% in August, with food prices markedly higher as drought hurt the spring harvest. The ongoing instability is hampering the delivery of vital humanitarian relief, and the government recently requested aid from the U.S. However, a comprehensive political response to the crisis is still lacking.
