Bosnia and Herzegovina - Investment

The economy slowed again in the second quarter of the year, partially due to a high base effect. However, economic growth was also weighed on by weaker public consumption and a drag from net exports, despite an acceleration in export growth as import growth doubled from that of Q1. On the upside, total investment and private consumption gained traction in Q2, with the latter likely supported by an over one-decade low unemployment rate, robust wage growth, and sustained remittances. Turning to the third quarter, the external sector improved as merchandise export growth accelerated slightly in the period, although falling EU demand limited the uptick. In the political arena, the government missed its deadline to form part of the national government as the impasse over joining NATO dragged on, further delaying progress on pertinent reforms.
