Bolivia - Exchange Rate

Although national accounts data is still unavailable, economic conditions have likely improved so far this year. Monthly activity data shows the economy rebounded at the tail end of Q1, although activity declined on average in January–March, swinging from the expansion in the prior three months. At the outset of Q2, economic growth accelerated to 29.0% in annual terms in April—the strongest growth rate since at least January 2007—albeit largely owing to a favorable base effect. Momentum seemingly spilled over into Q3: In July, remittances inflows continued to expand and the unemployment rate dropped to its lowest level since March 2020, boding well for household spending. Additionally, goods imports growth remained robust, signaling healthier domestic demand dynamics. That said, while daily infection rates have decreased markedly since peaking in mid-June, authorities will keep associated restrictions in place until at least 31 December.
