Belize - Inflation

Economic growth soared in the first quarter of the year. Chiefly, a stellar tourism outturn— buoyed by robust cruise ship arrivals and a notable increase in overnight stays—fed through to stronger hotels and restaurants, and retail activity. Moreover, the primary sector picked up, owing to higher sugarcane and banana output amid favorable weather conditions, further supporting overall growth. On the contrary, the industrial sector faltered for the second consecutive quarter on tumbling electricity and petroleum output. Turning to the second quarter, semi-annual data showed the unemployment rate fell to a record low of 7.6% in April, while tourism remained buoyant in the same month, boding well for private consumption and services exports, respectively.
