Exchange Rate in Albania
Albania - Exchange RateFollowing the fastest GDP expansion in 10 years in Q1, high-frequency indicators paint a bright panorama for Q2. Merchandise exports averaged markedly higher in April–June compared with the previous quarter, while tourist arrivals surged throughout the same period, pointing towards a healthier external sector. Moreover, merchandise imports averaged higher in the second quarter compared to Q1, indicating firming domestic demand. Turning to this quarter, momentum has seemingly carried over, with both merchandise imports and exports expanding at strong rates in July—despite being less flattered by a low base effect—while tourist arrivals approached pre-pandemic levels in the same month. That said, a new Covid-19 wave has now beset the country and prompted authorities to tighten domestic and international travel restrictions slightly from September.
