Inflation reaches near one-year high in July
Latest reading: Inflation came in at 4.1% in July, which was up from June’s 3.8% reading, but remained within the Central Bank of Kenya’s 2.5–7.5% target range for a 25th straight month. July's result represented the joint-highest inflation rate since August 2024. The rise was broad-based, with higher price pressures recorded for food and non-alcoholic beverages, housing and utilities plus transportation. Still, the trend pointed down slightly, with annual average inflation coming in at 3.5% in July (June: +3.6%). Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.11% in July over the previous month, which was below the 0.48% rise seen in June. July's result marked the weakest reading since August 2024.
