Slovakia: GDP growth ticks up in Q4

The Slovak economy remains strong. According to preliminary data released by the Central Statistics Office (KSH) on 14 February, the economy expanded 3.5% annually in Q4, accelerating marginally from the previous quarter’s 3.4% growth. In the same period, total employment increased 2.2% over Q4 2016 and 0.5% compared to Q3 2017.
On a quarter-on-quarter basis, GDP growth picked up from 0.8% in Q3 to a slightly stronger 0.9% increase in Q4, marginally above market expectations of 0.8% growth. More detailed data will be released on 7 March.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect GDP growth to reach 3.5% in 2018, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2019, the panel projects economic growth will reach 3.2%.
