Malaysia: Inflation increases in October

November 21, 2014

Consumer prices increased 0.5% in October over the previous month, which was up from the 0.2% rise tallied in September. October’s result, the highest since January, was mainly driven by a spike in transport costs.

Annual inflation increased from 2.6% in September to 2.8% in October. The result was below market expectations of a 3.0% expansion. Annual average inflation held at September’s 3.2% in October, which marked the highest level in almost three years.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists expect inflation to average 3.3% in 2014, which is unchanged from last month’s projection. For 2015, the panel sees inflation rising to 3.6%.
