Lithuania: GDP growth gains momentum in Q2
GDP rose 6.9% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2021, according to preliminary data. The result followed the 1.5% increase logged in Q1 and marked the best reading since Q3 2011—although it was partly due to a low base effect. Meanwhile, in seasonally-adjusted quarter-on-quarter terms, GDP growth eased to 0.4% in Q2 following the 2.2% expansion logged in the previous quarter.
The second quarter’s year-on-year increase in activity came on the back of gradually lifting restrictions throughout the period, and was driven by a strong performance in the industrial and retail sectors.
More detailed national accounts data for Q2 will be released on 31 August.
