Guatemala: Inflation jumps in December

Consumer prices rose 0.60% month-on-month in December, up from the 0.44% increase in November. The print was driven by a steep rise in prices for food, housing, and transport offsetting a notable drop in prices for alcoholic beverages.

Inflation, meanwhile, jumped to 3.4% in December from 2.9% in November, while annual average inflation edged up to 3.7% in December from November’s 3.6%.

Banguat expects inflation to end 2020 at 4.0%. FocusEconomics panelists see inflation ending 2020 at 3.8%, which is unchanged from the previous month’s forecast. For 2021, our panelists expect inflation to end the year at 4.0%.
