Greece: Inflation picks up in April from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices were up 4.6% in annual terms in April, following a 3.4% rise in the prior month. April’s reading was the strongest since March 2023.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+4.4% in annual terms vs +4.3% in March), transportation (+6.4% vs +6.0% in March), housing and utilities (+13.4% vs +6.3% in March), recreation (+1.9% vs +0.4% in March) and restaurants and hotels (+4.9% vs +4.2% in March).
Meanwhile, consumer prices were up 5.4% on a year-on-year basis in April, following a 3.9% rise in the previous month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices were up 1.63% in April in month-on-month terms, following a 2.12% increase in the previous month.
