Germany: Merchandise exports growth decelerates in February
Merchandise exports rose 0.9% month-on-month on a calendar- and seasonally-adjusted basis in February, down from the 1.6% rise recorded in January. Imports, meanwhile, increased 3.6% month-on-month in February, after falling 3.5% in January. The calendar- and seasonally-adjusted trade surplus, moreover, narrowed to a calendar- and seasonally-adjusted EUR 19.1 billion from EUR 21.2 billion in January.
On an annual basis, merchandise exports dropped 1.2% in February, up from the 7.9% nosedive recorded in the prior month. Imports, meanwhile, rose 0.9% in February after falling 9.2% in January. Lastly, the trend pointed down as the 12-month moving sum of the trade balance narrowed to EUR 177.5 billion in February from EUR 180.6 billion in January.
