Chile: Consumer confidence continues to rise in October

November 3, 2020

The Adimark GfK consumer confidence index rose to 29.9 points in October, from 26.5 points in September, marking the strongest reading in eight months. However, the index remained entrenched below the critical 50-point threshold that separates pessimism from optimism among Chilean consumers.

October’s improvement was almost broad-based. Sentiment regarding current general economic conditions; personal financial conditions; expectations on the stability of the country in the next five years; and consumers' willingness to buy big-ticket items, all improved from the previous month. On the other hand, the economic outlook for the next year weakened slightly

Panelists participating in the LatinFocus Consensus Forecast project private consumption to increase 5.7% in 2021, which is unchanged from last month’s forecast. For 2022, the panel sees private consumption growing 3.8%.
