Bulgaria Inflation June 2020

Bulgaria: Inflation at nearly three-year low in June amid lockdown and falling prices for transport

July 15, 2020

Consumer prices fell 0.40% from the previous month in June, following May’s softer 0.33% drop. According to the Statistical Institute, May’s fall largely reflected lower prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages, and clothing and footwear more than offsetting higher prices for furnishings and household equipment and restaurants and hotels.

Meanwhile, inflation rose to 1.6% from May’s 1.3% which had marked the lowest reading since July 2017. Lastly, annual average inflation eased from May’s 2.8% to 2.7% in June.

FocusEconomics Consensus Forecast panelists project inflation to average 2.4% in 2020, which is down 0.3 percentage points from last month’s forecast. For 2021, panelists project inflation to average 2.3%.
