Belarus: Inflation eases in May from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 4.8% in annual terms in May, following a 5.4% increase in the previous month. May’s reading was the weakest since October 2023.
Relative to the previous month’s data, there were milder price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+4.5% on a year-on-year basis vs +6.0% in April) and clothing (+2.0% vs +2.5% in April). In contrast, price pressures were higher for transportation in May (+4.2% vs +3.6% in April). Finally, the variation in housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels prices was the same as in the prior month (+10.1% in May and April).
Finally, consumer prices increased 0.10% in May in month-on-month terms, following a 0.80% rise in the previous month.
