Austria: Consumer confidence remains entrenched in negative territory in August
Consumer confidence was stable at minus 10.0 in August from July. Consequently, the index remained firmly entrenched below the neutral zero-threshold that separates pessimism from optimism among consumers.
The stable reading reflected less downbeat views on the financial situation of households in the past year, offset by a more pessimistic view on the economic situation in the year ahead and in the past 12 months. On the other hand, consumers’ views regarding the suitability of the current time to purchase big-ticket items jumped.
