Energy prices decreased 3.5% month on month in October, following September’s 0.4% fall.
After stabilizing in September, following the U.S. signing a host of trade deals, energy prices resumed their downtrend in October, which has been in place since May last year. Prices decreased for Brent, WTI, U.S. diesel and gasoline, European natural gas and Australian thermal coal. OPEC+’s output hikes continued to sap investor interest in the market, with increases totaling roughly 3% of world oil demand since April, despite a demand panorama that has been weighed on by higher U.S. tariffs. Moreover, demand for oil tends to weaken in Q4 as air and road travel in the northern hemisphere decline. More positively, prices for Australian coking coal and uranium rose, while U.S. natural gas prices surged thanks to record LNG exports, a dip in U.S. production and forecasts of colder U.S. weather.
