GDP in Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina - GDPThe economy closed 2016 on a positive note with a strong quarterly GDP reading. Economic growth came in at 2.6% in Q4, marking the second consecutive acceleration and the fastest growth rate in over one year. The expansion was underpinned by a strong performance of the industrial sector and financial and insurance activities. Unfortunately, however, Bosnia and Herzegovina has run into trouble and the news gives little reason to celebrate. The country’s legislature failed to pass bills necessary to unlock over EUR 550 million in loans from the IMF. The Fund expects a significant delay in the completion of the first review of the Extended Fund Facility program. The decision to freeze loan disbursements will likely slow the implementation of structural reforms since the funds were meant to provide financial buffers to facilitate them.
