GDP in Armenia
Armenia - GDPArmenia’s tough economic predicament took a turn for the worse in the third quarter of 2016, when GDP contracted a severe 2.6% year-on-year (Q2: +1.6% yoy). Although the fourth quarter started on an equally downbeat note, with October’s economic activity indicator falling to a multi-year low and industrial output slowing down, both saw stronger readings in November and could close the year on a strong mark. Meanwhile, in early December Armenia received the fourth tranche of USD 21.24 million from the IMF under an Extended Fund Facility program. The Fund has lauded the authorities’ efforts but points to significant external headwinds jeopardizing the pace of reform implementation. These could be further heightened after a recent escalation of violence at the border with Azerbaijan threatened efforts to put an end to the long-standing conflict.
