Yemen - Exports
The economy may be improving somewhat after having hit rock bottom last year. The UN’s nationwide two-month truce that started in early April with the holy month of Ramadan has allowed 18 oil tankers access to the Hodeidah port, and two weekly commercial flights can now land in to Sana’a airport. A few days later, the president of the internationally recognized government handed over power to a transitional council which includes figures from a wider range of non-Houthi factions. Additionally, Saudi Arabia and the UAE pledged USD 3 billion to help with the transition. This political shift could pave the ground for talks with the Houthis. Meanwhile, on 16 April the UN released USD 20 million of food aid, but food insecurity is still acute. In other news, a USD 80 million fundraiser will be held on 11 May to help unload the 1.1 million oil barrels held in the oil tanker moored off the Red Sea coast.Yemen - Exports Data
