Exchange Rate in Turkmenistan
Turkmenistan - Exchange RateIncoming data for the first seven months of 2021 is mixed. The economic panorama improved in early April amid the easing of restrictions, but recent customs data shows that exports to China receded by almost 9% in annual terms in January–July. Meanwhile, a reported rise in Covid-19 cases, although there is no official record, led authorities to tighten restrictions in mid-July and again in early August, which should be capping momentum further into H2. In other news, Fitch Ratings recently assigned Turkmenistan a rating of B+ with a stable outlook, citing a sound sovereign balance sheet. Additionally, the agency noted the country’s political and external stability compared to regional peers, but warned of weak institutional structures such as monetary policy. Overall, the move should boost international investors’ confidence in the country, boding well for foreign capital inflows.
