Interest Rate in Tanzania
Tanzania - Interest RateAnnual growth decelerated to 6.6% in Q1 2019, from the 7.1% expansion recorded in Q4 2018. A marked slowdown in the manufacturing, and trade and repair sectors, coupled with a moderation in the growth of the construction sector, was chiefly behind the cooling. Nevertheless, output growth in the all-important agricultural sector strengthened in Q1, cushioning the overall deceleration. Turning to the second quarter, the economy seems to have lost further momentum. Rising inflationary pressures likely weighed on consumer demand, while plummeting agricultural exports led merchandise exports to contract in April–May. In other news, both the World Bank and the IMF have contested official growth figures for last year, saying that real growth lost pace in 2018 as a result of President Magufuli’s interventionist policies.
