Slovenia - Unemployment

The economy appears to have gained some traction in the second quarter, after growth slid to an over two-year low in the first quarter as firms wound down inventories. Export growth accelerated in April–May amid signs of a pick-up in activity in the trading bloc and despite reduced output in some parts of the manufacturing sector. Moreover, retail sales growth, on average, landed higher in the same two months, thanks to a surge in April, indicating more rapid gains in private consumption. Consumer confidence bouncing back to the highest level in six months in June also hints at improving prospects for household spending. That said, industrial activity was slightly weaker in April–May, while business sentiment deteriorated to a three-year low in June, warranting caution. In other news, Fitch Ratings upgraded the country’s credit rating from A- to A on 19 July, citing improved debt dynamics amid a sustained solid pace of expansion and asset sales.
