Trade Balance in Myanmar

Myanmar - Trade Balance

The economy appears to be recovering from a rocky transition period, which ran from 1 April to 30 September 2018—the latest period for which GDP data is available due to fiscal years adjustments. A stable kyat, slowing inflation and lower oil prices likely supported household spending. Moreover, foreign capital inflows strengthened in recent months, boding well for construction and manufacturing activities. Nevertheless, an uncertain global outlook continues to dent Myanmar’s economic recovery. In July, the manufacturing PMI eased to a seven-month low, mostly reflecting soft order book volumes. Moreover, supplier shortages and an increase in electricity costs kept inflationary pressures high.
