Interest Rate in Moldova
Moldova - Interest RateThe economy grew a strong 4.4% in annual terms in the first quarter as robust capital investment more than offset sluggish private consumption (Q4 2018: +3.8% year-on-year). Economic activity likely moderated in the second quarter, however. Industrial production sank in May as both mining and manufacturing activity contracted, while average merchandise exports growth for April–May came in markedly below that of Q1. Nevertheless, domestic demand likely remained sturdy, as signaled by robust credit growth throughout Q2. In politics, officials began talks with Russia on 17 July to strike a new gas supply and transit deal before the current one expires by year-end. A head start to negotiations avoids putting the country at risk of energy shortages next year.
