GDP in Lebanon
Lebanon - GDPAlthough Moody’s downgraded Lebanon’s credit rating in late January on an increased risk of default, government bond yields declined in recent weeks following news that Qatar had purchased USD 500 million of Lebanese bonds and that Saudi Arabia would continue to support the country. Yields fell further on the news that a new government had formed after nine months of tense gridlock, which must now turn to a confluence of challenges that face the country. Of particular priority will be reducing the hefty debt levels which burden government finances and make the country extremely vulnerable to shocks; bringing down the fiscal shortfall by five percentage points in the next five years would help unlock USD 11 billion in donor funds pledged at a Paris conference last April.
