Industry in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan - IndustryRecently released figures show that economic activity cooled significantly in the first six months of the year. The slowdown came mainly on the back of a notable drop in mining production, as gold extraction in the important Kumtor mine—the second largest globally—contracted sharply. In addition, the manufacturing sector recorded a sizeable fall in activity. Nevertheless, fixed investment and construction activity expanded at a solid pace, while consumer spending increased robustly, underpinned by rising wages and soaring remittances from Russia. Exports also performed well, supported by growing demand from countries in the Eurasian Economic Union.
