Industry in Kyrgyzstan
Kyrgyzstan - IndustryAccording to preliminary data, economic growth accelerated to 4.5% last year, up from 2018’s 3.8% rise. A resilient industrial sector largely underpinned the expansion, powered by stronger manufacturing activity, as well as mining activity at the all-important Kumtor gold mine. In addition, output in the construction sector accelerated, while capital spending growth quickened from 2018. Growth of the wholesale and retail trade sector, however, eased from the previous year. Moreover, remittance inflows contracted in January–November year-on-year amid a decline in those from CIS countries, which likely weighed on household spending. That said, a healthy increase in average salaries in the same period should have cushioned their impact.
