Unemployment in Kosovo
Kosovo - UnemploymentWhile data is limited, economic growth in the second quarter should have benefitted from robust private consumption; remittance inflows were healthy in April, while consumer loans picked up from Q1 in April–May. This comes after economic growth accelerated in the first quarter on the back of stronger private and public consumption. On the fiscal front, even though government consumption growth more than tripled in Q1 from Q4, the fiscal balance improved to a near-neutral position from a notable deficit in the prior quarter. Political developments are, meanwhile, expected to dominate headlines in Q3. In July, Prime Minister Ramush Haradinaj resigned and called on President Hashim Thaçi to schedule snap elections, which will reportedly be in September. The resignation came as Haradinaj was called into questioning at a tribunal in The Hague regarding alleged war crimes.
