Imports in Kosovo
Kosovo - ImportsFollowing a strong year-on-year expansion in the second quarter, economic growth seemingly lost steam in Q3. Remittance growth recorded its weakest performance in 15 months in July, while consumer loans swung to a contraction in the quarter overall. This, coupled with a noticeable intensification of price pressures, will have weighed on household spending in Q3. Turning to the external sector, while merchandise import growth firmed in the quarter, goods exports contracted on average, pointing to waning foreign demand. Meanwhile, tensions with Serbia remain elevated after a Kosovan national sporting team was refused entry into Serbia in late October. Domestically, the ruling party fell short of gaining an outright majority in any of the 38 municipalities in the mid-October regional elections, signaling possible discontent with the current government.
